What exactly are the Dragon Boats? Can I ride in one?
回答

The Dragon Boats originated in China and, as the name implies, are long and narrow in shape and modeled after the form of a dragon. They were originally brought to Japan around 350 years ago by the Chinese Fukkenshyo, landing in Nagasaki and then gradually spreading throughout various regions of Japan. Dragon Boat events are still big in Hong Kong, but also in other various locations around Japan as well. Details on the international standard of boats used at the races held in Kasumigaura City as well as at the Yokohama Port Festival are outlined below.

Boat length 11.66 meters
Boat width 1.06 meters
Number of riders up to 20

※For the Kasumigaura Race: up to 18 rowers (from 14-18)
Accompanied by - 1 taiko drummer (keeping time)
Steersman - 1 coxswain (steering the boat with the rudder)
※この規格の艇は、香港等で行われている国際大会で使用されているものですが,その他にも各地で様々なサイズの艇が使用され、それぞれレースが開催されています。

While the regulation boats outlined above are employed in Hong Kong and other international races, events held which incorporate different types of races and boat sizes also take place in various locations.
